Output Design

In most systems, the following reports may be present:

  • On Demand Reports: These are reports that are produced to satisfy adhoc queries about the data stored in the systems. Users may use report generators to define the fields they want and the criteria for selection and the order of printing.

  • Report generators relieve the analyst of the task of specifying all possible requirements in advance and it also helps to allow the reporting system to change and reflect new user requirements.

  • Summary Reports: These are reports produced at specific intervals that reflect a summary of detailed listing of individual reports.

  • Exception Reports: These are reports that show date on information that is extraordinary or not within the accepted norms. Their purpose is to prompt some action. They thus are used in decision making.

  • Internal Reports: These are reports that are not used outside the organization. They usually contain detailed internal information.

  • External Reports: These are reports that are used outside the organization such as invoices, etc

  • Archival Reports: These are reports which are produced when the appropriate data is no longer required by the system.
